MIKE MARTZ
Quarterbacks Coach

Mike Martz enters his first season as the Redskins quarterback coach after spending the previous five seasons with the Rams, the last two as receivers coach. Martz first came to the Rams in 1992 as tight ends coach before working with the wide receivers. Martz had a heavy hand in the development of wide receiver Isaac Bruce into one of the premier players in the league.

With that past success, Martz now turns his attention to Gus Frerotte. Before joining the Rams, Martz served as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at Arizona State (1988-91) and quarterbacks coach (1983-87). He spent one season (1982) at the University of Minnesota coaching the running backs. Martz began his coaching career at Bullard High School in Fresno, CA in 1973, followed by stints at San Diego Mesa College (1974 and 1976-77), San Jose State (1975), Santa Ana College (1978), Fresno State (1979) and University of Pacific (1980-81).

A 1973 summa cum laude graduate of Fresno State, Martz played two seasons at tight end at San Diego Mesa College(1969-70) and one year at the University of California at Santa Barbara (1971) before ending up at Fresno State. Born May 13, 1951 in Sioux Falls, SD, Martz attended Madison High School in San Diego, CA. He and his wife, Julia, have four children, Chris, 22, David, 17, Timothy, 14, and Emily, 13. They reside in Sterling, VA.
