Redskins Opening Day Poem<BR>

An unexpected visit on September 11, 1999 

T’was the nite before our season, when all thru the Jack 
Not a player was stirring, not even our quarterback. 
The plays were all written, Norv prepared them with care 
With hopes that next season, he would still be there. 
The receivers were nestled all snug in their beds 
With visions of touchdowns dancing in their heads. 
Dan Snyder in ‘pj’s’ and Skinettes in their nighties 
Had just settled in and turned out their light-ies. 
When out on the streets there arose such a clatter 
The cowboys in shackles had flown in to get battered. 
Off to the windows all true skins fans flew, 
To heckle,  to hiss,  to jeer and to boo. 
When what to our wandering eyes should appear, 
Its Aikman and Irvin and Ismail ..  NO FEAR. 
They were dressed up in blue stars most of these boys, 
I knew in a moment it must be the Cowboys. 
Next Sanders limped by, with out a cane, 
And we whistled and yelled and called them by name. 
Now Troy, Now Emmitt, Now Michael and Raghib 
On Wane, on Kendall … get ready to bleed. 
You’ve come to our town, to get beaten fair … 
So get to your hotel, you’ll need the rest you get there. 
Please stay out of our jails, because have no doubt, 
If you go in  - we will never let you boys out… 

And then, in a twinkle, I heard at the door 
A knock that I hadn't’t heard ever before. 
I looked through my window and what did I spy, 
But Norv, and Jack’s ghost, just dropping by. 
Norv was dressed up in style from head to toe, 
Jack looked a little pale but ready to go. 
A bag full of tricks were flung on their backs, 
Any they came right in and opened their packs. 
Their eyes were twinkling, the Cowboys are done, 
They showed me they plays, the roster, what fun. 

We’ve got Brad who can pass, a back-up of Peete, 
Westbrook to catch and to land on his feet. 
With Davis and Centers a touchdowns assured. 
We will win big .. that is the word! 
Defending’s no problem, no problem at all 
With Green, Shade and Wilkenson watch how they fall. 
Jones, Barber and Smith all know their tough, 
And even Bailey has been showing his stuff. 
If Conway can kick we put less stress on Turk, 
Oh those Cowboys will go home knowing they’re jerks. 
These players are all GREAT and ready to play, 
But if I have to name ‘em all .. I’ll miss opening day. 

The level of readiness – it’s full steam ahead 
Norv and Jack let me know there is nothing to dread. 
Then through their packs they both did sift, 
And covered my table with fan packs and gifts. 
After gathering their notes which took all their might, 
They shook my hand and wished me good night. 
I walked them out of my house to wish good-luck , 
And reminded them we know the Cowboys do suck. 
They climbed in their car and drove out of sight … 
With all the fans screaming … 
     
The skins will kick butt … and the Cowboys will Bite !!!!!
