DALE LINDSEY
Linebackers Coach

Dale Lindsey joins the Redskins staff this season after the past four seasons with the San Diego Chargers. He brings with him an impressive resume that includes a nine-year NFL career and 23 years of coaching experience in four professional football leagues, college and high school.

Lindseys entered the coaching ranks in 1974 as the linebackers coach with the Cleveland Browns. The following year he joined the Portland Storm (1975-76) of the World Football League. The next two years were spent as head coach at Warren Central High School in Bowling Green, KY.

Lindsey returned to the pro ranks in 1979, with the Canadian Football Leagues Toronto Argonauts coaching linebackers through 1982. When the USFL kicked off its inaugural season in 1983, Lindsey joined the Boston Breakers as linebackers coach before moving on to the New Jersey Generals (1984-85) as defensive coordinator.

Lindsey returned to the NFL in 1986 with the Green Bay Packers as linebackers coach. In 1988, he followed Forrest Gregg to SMU where he served as defensive coordinator for two years (1988-89). Lindsey returned once more to the NFL in 1990 coaching the defensive line for the New England Patriots. In 1991, Lindsey became the linebackers coach in Tampa Bay for one season before joining the Chargers in 1992.

Lindsey began his college career at the University of Kentucky before moving on Western Carolina where he was a first-team Little all-America selection as a senior. He graduated with a bachelor of science degree in biology and physical education. Lindsey was drafted by both the Cleveland Browns (seventh round) and the AFL New York Jets in 1965 before signing with the Browns. He played nine years with the Browns and played in three NFL championship games (1965-68-69). Born January 18, 1943, in Bedford, IN, he grew up in Bowling Green, KY and attended Bowling Green High School.He and his wife, Eva, have five children, Blan, Jennifer, Kim, Johnny and Derek, and reside in Sterling, VA.
