Brad Badger
OL from Stanford
6-4 297 pounds
5.15 40 time
Notes: High-school tight end who moved inside in 1993. Started every game
at guard in '94
and has missed only one start since then.
Positives: Good athlete. Runs well. Has quick hands. Can
pull and trap. Decent pass
blocker who has been in a pro-style system. Can deep-snap.
Negatives: Is not very physical or explosive. Does not
always stay frontal when blocking.
More push than pop. Finesse-type player. Tends to play too
upright. Long-strider who
misses a lot when blocking on the move. Does not seem to
have a real down-and-dirty
passion for the game at times.
Summary: Better athlete than football player, but a
three-year starter in a major program
who has not played badly and has an upside.
Sportsline Reports:
Badger was originally recruited by Bill Walsh and is an athletic lineman
with the versatility to play all three positions along
the line. Badger has also been one of the more durable lineman for the
Cardinals as he has started 34 of Stanford's 35
games over the past three years. Although not real bulky, he has good size
and agility, can shuffle and slide, does a good
job of keeping his feet moving, and uses his hands well in pass
protection. However, he is more of a finesse-type
blocker, lacks and aggressive run blocking attitude, and does not have
real good functional football strength. Thus, he will
need to get much stronger and develop more of a mean streak if he expects
to see much playing time next level. Still, he
has the frame to add the bulk and strength needed and could become a solid
lineman with a few years of serious weight
training.
