Draft Tracker reports: Notes: Four-sport athlete in high school who starred in football and lettered in basketball, baseball and track. Enrolled as a 200-pound defensive back in 1993 and redshirted. Played in every game and started once in the secondary in '94. Ended the year with 46 tackles and three passes broken up. Moved to outside linebacker in '95 and started 10-of-11 games. Had 73 tackles, nine stops for loss, seven sacks, nine passes broken up and an interception. Started every game and won All-Yankee Conference honors in '96. Ended the season with 92 tackles, six sacks, eight tackles for loss and an interception that he returned for a touchdown. All-Atlantic 10 linebacker in '97 after accumulating 94 tackles, 13 stops for loss, six sacks, three picks and a 56-yard TD reception. Positives: Has tremendous speed and range for a linebacker. Very active with great movement skills and very good flexibility. Has quickness and acceleration and can really close on the ball. Seems to fly all over the field. Can drop into coverage or run with a back. Has become much more instinctive and is reading things more quickly. Added weight and strength have improved his ability to combat and get off blockers to some degree. Had a fine week at the Senior Bowl and showed he belonged with the top players in the college game. Negatives: Still is undersized and does not take on and shed blockers as well as scouts would like. Gets buried at times and has a hard time getting off blocks. Is not a superinstinctive backer who anticipates exceptionally well (a la Dexter Coakley). Can play only on the weak side or as a nickel backer in a defense in which he is covered up. Summary: Went from a late-round pick or a priority free agent to a solid pick who could possibly move up to the second or third round as a result of his week at the Senior Bowl |

Stock soared after combine workout... Demonstrated terrific athleticism with a 37-inch vertical leap... Must overcome the lack of competition at Richmond... All-Atlantic 10 after accumulating 94 tackles, six sacks and three interceptions, including returning one 56 yards for a score... Has great speed and range... Able to catch running backs from behind... Proved at the Senior Bowl he could play with elite players.
Great movement skills, instincts, and recognition ability…4.5 speed…Shows good range…Great athlete who is a very good run and chase player…Excellent cover ability…Solid tackler…Can lay a good hit…Shows lots of potential as a pass rusher…Still is raw, so a lot of development is still needed…Isn't a very experienced linebacker…Has trouble taking on lineman, but gets around blocks well.
This guy I love more and more as we get closer to the draft. Has excellent natural ability. The major adjustment will be playing linebacker at the NFL level since he lacks a lot of experience. Could develop into an outstanding player with the right team.
MOST UNDERRATED: SHAWN BARBER-Richmond 6:01, 227
