EARL LEGGETT
Defensive Line Coach
After 21 seasons in the NFL, the last four with the New York Giants, Earl Leggett joins the Redskins with credentials that include two Super Bowl championships and the development of eight-time Pro Bowler and future Hall of Famer Howie Long. Leggett has spent the majority of his 21-year NFL career with the Raiders. He was on the Raiders staff from 1980-88 and again from 1991-92. He spent two seasons in Denver from 1989-90.
Prior to his first stint with the Raiders, he coached the defensive line for the San Francisco 49ers in 1978, whose head coach was Dick Nolan, father of the Redskins defensive coordinator Mike Nolan. Before his one year stay in San Francisco, Leggett was with the Seattle Seahawks in 1976 and 1977. He began his coaching career at Nicholls State in 1971 before moving to Texas Christian in 1972-73. His first professional coaching experience with the Southern California Sun of the World Football League in 1974 and 1975.
An all-American defensive tackle at LSU, Leggett was a first-round draft selection by the Chicago Bears in 1957. He was traded to the Rams in 1966 and later taken in the 1967 veteran allocation draft by the New Orleans Saints (1967-68). Born March 5, 1935 in Jacksonville, FL, he attended in Town, he attended High School. He and his wife Bobbi, have two sons and two daughters and reside in Sterling, VA.
