Jeremy Asher
Oregon
Height: 6-1
Weight: 240
40 time: 4.81
Jon Drenning reports:
Although not as big or fast as your would like, Asher is a highly active
ILB with excellent instincts and awareness, and has been one of the most
productive inside linebackers in the country the past two seasons. He is
good at diagnosing plays just prior to the snap, can slip and slide
through blocks and move well laterally down the line, is a good open
field tackler and will play hurt. He also has enough quickness to cover
the underneath routes and does a good job of staying on his feet when
fighting through trash. However, he lacks height, bulk and speed, has
difficulty covering the quicker RBs, and WRs past the 10 yard zone on the
next level, and can be tied up and pushed aside when taking on offensive
linemen.
Mel Kiper, Jr. reports:
Notes: Redshirted in 1991. Started twice in 92. Started every game in 93
and had 65 tackles and three sacks. Was in on 91 tackles, four tackles for
loss and one sack in 94 and also picked off a pass. Had a career-high 107
tackles and 11 tackles for loss in 95. Was a second-team All-Pacific-10
pick in 93 and 94 and an All-Pac 10 selection in 95.
Positives: Is generally instinctive and aware. Has good movement skills
and range. Fills with quickness. Has a knack for slipping blocks. Makes
plays on the outside. Uses hands and plays the game on his feet.
Negatives: Does not take on and shed blocks very well. Cannot handle a big
lineman, unless he is in a position to run around him. May be a little
stiff. Tends to play and tackle high.
Summary: Run-and-chase-type linebacker who must be in a position to go
around blocks.
USA Today reports:
One of the hardest hitters in college football, Asher bends his knees when
engaging larger blockers and shows excellent sideline-to-sideline range. .
. Was a 1995 All-Pac 10 first-team choice and led Oregon with 111 tackles

of the Year at Tigard (Ore.) High School.
